Cha-Am

Located just a 20 minute journey by road north from Hua Hin (see separate entry), and 100 miles south of Bangkok on the Gulf of Thailand coast, Cha Am is a slightly more relaxed alternative to its bigger neighbour. Cha Am also boasts the longest beach in Thailand, which is obviously a major draw for many a holidaymaker, as well as the Bangkok residents for whom this is the ideal weekend getaway. The resort may be quite small, but it nevertheless has a wide range of high quality hotels, many of them luxury retreats, as well as restaurants and places of interest. As with Hua Hin, Cha Am is the ideal place to base yourself if you are planning a golfing holiday as there are several high quality golf courses within easy reach of the resort centre. The resort also has numerous water sports on offer including waterskiing, kite boarding, canoeing, sailing and fishing (there is a nearby fishing park).

For all the golf courses and luxury hotels, Cha Am still retains the traditional air of a small seaside village, with a handful of cultural attractions. Sightseeing highlights include the Phra Nakom Khiri or Khao Want, a palace and temple complex located on a hilltop and commissioned by King Rama IV in 1859.

See Hua Hin section for more information on what to do in the region.
