Chiayi

Chiayi has so many beautiful and wonderful sites to see including: magnificent mountains, quaint villages, fishing harbors, nature reserves, temples of national importance, and both Han Taiwanese and aboriginal traditions in abundance.

The western part of the county is coastal where the fish market at Budai is famous islandwide, while the wetlands at Aogu and the mangrove swamps of Haomeiliao are hospitable places for some rare species. The eastern region ranges from a few hundred meters above sea level to the peak of Yushan, at 3,952 meters the highest mountain in Northeast Asia; in the valleys are aboriginal villages, tea growers, and coffee planters. And between the plains and the highlands are the agricultural areas of Lucao, Minsyong, and Dalin, plus the religious center of Singang, whose Fongtian Temple attracts droves of pilgrims.

The population is at approximately 560,000 people include seventh-generation Taiwanese farmers, retired soldiers from mainland China, Tsou and Bunun aborigines, university professors, engineers, musicians, and artists. With its back to the mountains, and its face to the world, one hand in the past and one hand in the future, Chiayi County welcomes everyone to enjoy the sunshine of its tourist attractions!
